The CEFR regulates language proficiency at six levels, from A1 to C2. These levels can be divided into three broad levels: Basic User, Independent User, and Power User. These levels are defined through ‘can-do’ descriptors, which specify the knowledge and know-how required for attaining this communication “threshold”1
The CEFR was developed to facilitate an original approach to the transmission of teaching methods in a way that is more suitable for the operational application of unknown languages. Therefore, itidentifies the needs of the language and determines the knowledge and skills needed to achieve this communication “threshold”1
The CEFR is an international framework used by everyone involved in language education, measurement and assessment.
The six levels of the CEFR are:
A1 – Beginner
A2 – Basic
B1- Intermediate
B2 – Upper Intermediate
